We are working on a Tuesday Schedule
The Woodhaven Winter Invitational tournament continues today afterschool for our Junior B teams. Last night our Jr B teams played awesome. The Jr B boys went 1-1 to finish 2nd in their pool! The Jr B girls went 2-0 and won their pool. The boys now play for 3rd place and the girls are in the tournament final!
Good luck to our senior boys basketball teams as they start the Prescott tournament today after school. The senior boys will be playing 2 games tonight…all in Copperhaven’s gym.
A reminder to all students who received a Pack Pride slip this week, please make you get it into your grade level box in the office by the end of the day. Winners will be announced on Monday!
Black History Month - Black History of Alberta
Charles Daniels worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad as an inspector for porters, one of the few jobs available for Black Canadians. When he wasn’t working, Daniels enjoyed going to the theatre. He was interested in a performance at the Sherman Grand Theatre (in Calgary) of King Lear by William Shakespeare. However, when he went to the show, his ticket was denied and he was directed to sit in the “coloured” section. This was in the balcony, rather than the seat he had purchased. Daniels refused and protested. He spoke to the manager and was told he was not allowed to sit in the front rows. The theatre offered him a refund as an alternative. He refused and left. Soon after, he launched a court case against the theatre. Taking place in 1914, this may be the earliest example of a civil rights court case in Western Canada.
