The following options courses are available to students in 9 during Term 1 of the 2025-2026 school year. Read through the course descriptions, then use the Grade 9 Option Registration Form to choose the courses you'd like to register for.

Industrial Arts (IA) (Huedepohl)

Students will complete various woodworking, metalworking and possibly electronic projects. Various skills will be learned to complete these projects.

Mentorship (Schock)

What is the mentorship option? Well, do you like helping others? In this class you will learn to set up a personal portfolio identifying your strengths for helping others.  You will receive training in the skills of leadership, assisting others, making successful personal relationships with younger students and teaching reading and math/LA activities. You may be assigned to work with a younger student from our school to help with school work.  Of course, there is always time for playing friendly games and building relationships.

Foods (Schaber)

Students will learn the necessary techniques needed to be a junior cooking expert! This challenge will allow them to explore their inner foodie as they create delicious snacks and desserts. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of ingredients to enhance their palette.

Musical Theatre (Lyons)

Musical Theatre provides an opportunity to sing, act, move, and grow your confidence on the stage.  We will be focusing on music and scenes from popular stage shows to learn how to use your voice, use the stage, engage the audience,  and develop vocal techniques.  No prior music experience needed!  We will end the term off with a Musical Theatre Showcase that highlights all of our favourite scenes and songs throughout the term.

Volleyball (Mulroy)

Students will develop volleyball leadership skills through participation in a variety of drill and game play situations. They will learn and develop the skills of volleyball through a variety of different activities led by the instructor and peers. Students will be required to participate in a variety of different drills to develop their personal skill level, team situations to improve on, communication and leadership skills, and develop and instruct a short lesson. After developing the necessary skills and knowledge of the skill and game, students will gain the confidence to lead others on the court.

Cosmetology (Cresswell)

This course will focus on developing the basic knowledge and skills in the cosmetology and esthetics industry. Some topics of instruction will include skin care, hair care and nail care. Students will be exposed to many aspects of cosmetology through multimedia, guest speakers, theory and practical work.

Robotics (Pon)

In this option, students will learn how to code RVR+ Robots (ATV Robots) by using their critical thinking skills to complete tasks and challenges with the robots.

Spanish Language & Mexican Culture (Leslie)

Ever wanted to learn Spanish while exploring the culture of Mexico? In this course, students will dive into Mexican food, music, film, and tourism while developing beginner Spanish skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Through scaffolded instruction as well as authentic resources such as music, movies, and guest speakers, students will communicate to share basic information, likes and dislikes, preferences and respond to simple requests. Working in collaborative teams, students will design a multimedia communications project to practice both cultural awareness and effective communication.
